Watchtower

Dating back to approximately 1400

This is the oldest part of the house, from approximately 1400, where there used to be a watch tower over the nearby Monestevole castle, which is now a ruin. There are also holes on either side of the door, about at knee height that were used, with a piece of wood across them like a lock. He had to make it a few feet higher because it was only at about his chest height. He wanted to keep the beautiful stone. The stone across the top is very old, but when he re-did it, he made a mistake with the curved stone ornament at the top of the door. Each side was originally on the other side, because the corner now facing the hallway is not weathered so it was inside originally, while the other is more weathered so it was outside. “This kind of a door I always liked.” Alessio cut the ceiling beams in the now bedroom to make room for the stairs now on the right.  The rest of the beams he then used in the kitchen.
